WORLD TRAVELS

“I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move.”
― Robert Louis Stevenson

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a rock star. In addition to all of the usual reasons, the most appealing part of that lifestyle to me was how much they got to travel. Later in life, I longed to become an expat. The main reason I thought this would be cool was because I would then be able to travel more easily. It wasn’t until much later that I realized that all of these things were merely excuses for doing the thing that I actually wanted to do and that the best way to travel was not to seek permission from some higher societal entity, but instead to just go.

For a long time, I traveled just to travel, enjoying every moment with no ulterior motives. Eventually, I bought a camera. These days, photography plays an ever-larger role in my travel plans and an ever heavier component of my backpack, but I remain a traveler first and foremost, interested primarily in experiencing the world and myself through the world. I am as fascinated as ever in the process by which far-off places that exist on maps and as fantasies in my mind become the ground beneath my feet and new realities with real people and real interactions.
